Using software to track open beds and patient movement within a hospital can reduce waits and increase unit efficiency, according to an article in the Birmingham Business Journal.
Focusing on a Birmingham-based company, the article outlines several advantages to patient-tracking systems. Along with the tracking software, the system also replaces traditional white boards with LCD displays, so staff can see where patients are and what treatments they have received, what is scheduled, and when a room becomes free for another patient.
The system reduces observation time, decreases the wait between when a discharge is ordered and when the patient is actually released, gets vacated rooms cleaned faster, and reduces transfer times within the hospital.
