Track DRG changes the right way

Since 2002, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has adopted a system that flags designated Diagnosis Related Groups (DRGs), and returns noncompliant claims for resubmission, but tracking these DRGs is still a challenge for hospitals. To achieve compliance, Don May, vice president for policy at the American Hospital Association, recommends that hospitals
- update coding software systems to comply with the change
- perform periodic checks to ensure the new system works
- create a policy to track the discharge status for every patient
