The Service Benefit plan under The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) received Case Management Accreditation last month from the Utilization Review Accreditation Commission (URAC), an independent, nonprofit organization that provides accreditation and certification programs. This marks the second time in three years that BCBSA's plan, which provides health insurance to 4.5 million federal government employees, retirees and their families, has received accreditation.
The accreditation requires the Service Benefit plan, also known as the Federal Employee Program, to develop a process to assess, plan and implement case management interventions. URAC's standards ensure appropriate patient protections have been established, such as policies for confidentiality, informed consent, and dispute resolution.
