The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Student Wellness Center (SWC) is at the top of the class when it comes to collegiate healthcare and case management. Earlier this year, the center was chosen over 900 university health providers for the Best Practice Award from the American College Health Association.
The award recognized UNLV's SWC for
- monitoring patients' progress
- following up on students who have been referred to other healthcare providers
- utilizing all resources available on campus to help students with illness or other problems
- being conscious of suggestions and grievances
These initiatives all stem from the center's case management program, which began in 2003. Since the program's inception, the response rate of referred patients has increased from 63% to 93%, signifying that more students are receiving proper care for their various needs.
