Almost 52 million Americans did not have health insurance for at least part of 2004, says the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The agency recently released a report that based this number on its National Health Interview Survey. The CDC estimates that almost 10% of Americans were uninsured for more than a year, and that 9 million children were uninsured for at least part of the year. The agency says these estimates show a decline in the number of uninsured.
