BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee created a Web site for consumers to compare hospitals. A patient's length of stay is one of the criteria used to rank the hospitals, according to an article on www.rednova.com. The site will allow consumers to compare data such as the average length of stay, mortality rate, average percentage of return patients, and other sorting criteria. The site was developed in conjunction with the state's hospital association, which provided the data for comparisons. The data is included in the information reported to the state, but is not commonly disseminated elsewhere. The latest information provided comes from the first quarter of 2004, according to the article. To read the complete article, click here.
