If you have been looking for a formal definition of the legal health record for disclosure purposes, it's your lucky day. The American Health Information Management Association has released such guidelines, which state organizations ensure that the content of the legal health records passing through their systems fit within system capabilities and legal environment. "Unfortunately there is no one-size-fits-all definition, as the laws and regulations governing the content vary by practice setting and state," said Julie McQueary, who co-chaired the AHIMA workgroup that developed the guidelines, reported AHANews.com. "However, there are common principles that can be followed in creating a definition."
