CMS proposes new hospice care rule

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently proposed a new rule for the hospice conditions of participation. According to CMS, more than 700,000 Medicare beneficiaries receive hospice care each year. Changes to the current rule include

  • Adding a patient assessment requirement
  • Removing the requirement that a RN care for the patient in an inpatient facility 24-hours a day
