Along with prescriptions for medication, Florida physicians are writing patients prescriptions for health information. Under a pilot program that started this Monday, physicians in six Florida counties are referring patients to MedlinePlus.gov, the consumer health information Web site of the National Institutes of Health, and AlzInfo.org, a Web site that contains Alzheimer's information. State officials say they hope to improve Florida residents' health literacy by combining quality health information with personalized intervention from their healthcare providers.
