Collaboration between hospitalists and clinical pharmacists results in shorter LOS, reduced medication costs, and improved clinical outcomes, according to a study by Saeed Syed, MD, a hospitalist with Cognent Healthcare. Syed compared patient outcomes for those treated by an attending physician and those who were treated by a hospitalist and clinical pharmacist. He found that those treated by a hospitalist and clinical pharmacist had a 23% shorter LOS and 21% lower medication costs.
