At Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA some patients are visited by a robot helping physicians do their rounds. CBS's Early Show recently profiled this "robodoc," which a physician operates by using a computer in his or her office or home. The robot is outfitted with sensors that detect objects near it to prevent it from running into anything or anyone in the busy halls of a hospital. From his or her computer the physician can see patients on a screen as the robot makes its rounds.
Urologist Dr. Michael Fabrizio told the Early Show that so far the facility has reduced its LOS by .2 days by using the robots, and he believes they could reduce LOS even more.
