The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) recently announced a new study that will examine smoking cessation programs in hospitals. The JCAHO sent surveys to 185 hospitals to learn more about smoking cessation counseling that caregivers provide to patients with myocardial infarction, heart failure, and pneumonia.
The JCAHO says it will use the results to identify best practices and develop education strategies that hospitals can use to improve smoking cessation programs.
