Virginia increases Medicaid payments for obstetrics

Virginia Governor Mark Warner issued an emergency regulation that will boost Medicaid payments for obstetrical care. The governor said increasing malpractice insurance premiums and stagnant reimbursement rates kept some hospitals in the state from delivering babies and providing other obstetric services. The 34% increase will take effect September 1. It's the first increase for obstetrical services in Virginia in more than a decade.
