Decision making within a team can be challenging, especially when the different clinical disciplines involved have diverse skills and knowledge. Use the following tips to make more effective group decisions.
- Decisions need to be made by the entire team, not just those with the highest education level.
- Team members must listen to all options on the table before making a final decision. Try to make the decision unanimous. No member of the group should feel pressured into making a decision just to get it off the table.
- Always establish who is responsible for carrying out the decision and who needs to be informed of new information.
