Hospitals will now be able to recover the full cost of treatment when they use SIR-Spheres(R), a radiation therapy product to treat non-resectable liver cancer, as a result of the Medicare Prescription Drug Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003.
Hospitals may apply now to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to be reimbursed for the full, actual amount of treatment, instead of settling for a pre-determined, fixed sum. Effective Jan. 1, 2004, the reimbursement paid to hospitals for SIR-Spheres(R) will cover charges adjusted to cost.
