Less may be more when it comes to imaging

Case managers can play a role in helping to reduce unnecessary testing.

 
Unnecessary tests and medical interventions can add up to some $210 billion in waste each year (see related article in the June issue of HCPro’s Case Management Monthly). At least one hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, is making an effort to cut out some of this waste by ensuring that the imaging tests doctors order are truly necessary for quality care.
