Early report: Federally-backed readmisison-prevention programs not seeing major progress

Community groups charged with reducing avoidable hospital readmissions are making little progress in reducing their readmission rates despite federal reimbursement, according to an early report on the program run by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation.

 
The report shows that only a small number of the organizations getting federal funds had significant readmission reductions—in other cases the results mirrored the results of non-participating hospitals serving as a control group. Experts told Kaiser Health News that while the findings seem disappointing at first glance, it may still be too early to see the true results of the program.
