News: Medicare Advantage enrollment on the rise

Enrollment in the Medicare Advantage program is projected to increase by 11% next year and premiums will remain steady, HHS said in a recent press release.  

Medicare Advantage premiums have decreased 10% and enrollment has risen 28% since enactment of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in 2010, the announcement said. The average Medicare Advantage premium in 2013 is projected to increase by $1.47 over last year to $32.59. CMS recently announced that the average estimated basic Medicare prescription drug plan premium was projected to be $30 in 2013, holding steady from last year.
