Case management Q&A

Case Management Weekly, August 15, 2012

Q. What is denial prevention?

A. Denial prevention is the ability to use a systematic approach to review admissions and continued stays to meet the definition of medical necessity. It includes helping the medical staff understand the important of documenting the need for an acute care admission or continued stay and to provide orders that can be issued only by highly skilled staff members.

This week’s Q&A is adapted from Prevent Denials and Win Appeals: The Hospital Case Manager's Guide to Revenue Integrity published by HCPro, Inc.
