News: Initiative supports home, community-based services

Case Management Weekly, July 4, 2012

HHS recently announced a new $25 million funding opportunity made possible by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act to help states assist senior citizens and disabled individuals access home and community-based long-term services.

The initiative, known as the Aging and Disability Resource Center Program, is established through a partnership between CMS, the Administration for Community Living, and the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Veterans Health Administration (VHA), HHS said in a press release.  The VHA will make an additional $27 million available over three years through its medical centers to increase access to home and community-based services for veterans.
The program will help state agencies administer and better coordinate state and federal long-term service and support programs for older adults, disabled individuals, and disabled veterans, HHS said in the press release.
