Mentor moment: How to implement a readmission reduction program

Case Management Weekly, June 20, 2012

Use the following strategies to explain why your organization should implement a readmission reduction program when you present the idea to your CEO:

  • Be succinct. Develop an elevator speech—something that quickly summarizes your idea and its potential benefits.
  • Describe the need. Present facts and data that substantiate your assertion.
  • Review the facts. Explain what you will do in a way that demonstrates that your approach is thorough and comprehensive.
  • Seek consensus. Determine whether your CEO agrees that your suggestions will fill an existing need. Respond to questions and concerns to put any lingering doubts to rest.
  • Close the deal. Ask for organizational support to implement the program. If your CEO is reluctant to fully implement the program, suggest a pilot to test its merit.
