Several hospitals have taken advantage of an online preregistration and check-in service that allows patients to make appointments for their emergency department (ED) visit, according to a Los Angeles Times article.
Twenty-three hospitals in eight states use InQuickER to schedule an ED visit online, rather than wait in the hospital reception area. Patients who make appointments pay between $14.99 and $24.99 for the service. However, if patients with appointments are not seen within 15 minutes of their scheduled time, they receive a refund.
The service is intended for patients who don’t have life-threatening symptoms. Those patients are encouraged to go to the ED immediately.
