Tip: Schedule regular staff meetings
Case Management Weekly, August 4, 2010
Case management departments should conduct regularly scheduled staff meetings. Staff members should review written reports that reflect the outcome of their work at these meetings. Discuss reports that address the following topics at staff meetings:
- Length of stay
- Third-party payer denials
- Transitional and discharge planning data
- Aggregated variance data
- Service line or specialty-specific data
- Physician-specific data
Regulatory updates involving payers, utilization review, and discharge planning issues are other topics that require regular discussion at staff meetings. Case managers should read case management literature, including journals, regularly. Audio conferences and webcasts are other methods of obtaining up-to-date information without the need to travel.
This week’s tip is adapted from Core Skills for Hospital Case Managers published by HCPro, Inc. For more information about this book or to order your copy, visit the HCMarketplace.
