St. Luke's Health System in Boise, ID is proving that Apple’s new iPad™ isn’t just a cool new gadget; it’s also improving care at opposite ends of the patient spectrum.
Physicians and nurses at St. Luke’s use the iPad’s Max and Buddy the Bear's "Bear Facts About CT Scans" application to prepare children about to undergo a computed tomography (CT) scan.
The hospital also has tried using the iPad to educate its Medicare population. Patients have been receptive and prefer it to using a computer. David Pate, president and CEO of St. Luke’s, thinks that patients prefer the portability of the iPad. Hospital staff can bring an iPad to patients waiting in a reception area instead of escorting them to a computer station.
