Free software can help you prepare for RAC audits

Do you ever wonder how the postacute transfer rule will affect the reimbursement for a particular discharge? Do you want to know what incomplete documentation actually costs your facility? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you might be interested in the IPPS PC Pricer. This easy-to-use software calculates payments for discharges from October 1 through September 30 for a given fiscal year.
Surprisingly, it’s relatively unknown among case managers, says Kimberly Anderwood Hoy, Esq., director of Medicare and compliance at HCPro, Inc., in Marblehead, MA, and instructor for HCPro’s Medicare Boot Camp®–Hospital Version. Despite its mystery, it’s useful in calculating the outlier threshold for a case, Hoy says.
