CMS now offers an electronic Medicare enrollment system known as Internet-based Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership System (PECOS). The new system manages, tracks, and validates enrollment data for physician and non-physician providers and suppliers. Providers and suppliers may enroll, make a change in their enrollment information, or track the status of their Medicare enrollment applications through the system.
PECOS is currently available in Delaware, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Wisconsin, and Washington, D.C. CMS expects to expand the program to all states in the next two months.
To enroll in the program, visit the PECOS Web site.
