The recently released Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) report, sponsored by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), offers helpful statistics for healthcare providers and patients.
The report analyzes hospital trends from 1993 through 2006. Topics such as most common discharges, diagnoses, and cost trends are all thoroughly analyzed in the report, along with information about admissions and payer sources.
Additionally, HCUP offers interactive query tools on its Web site that allow healthcare providers to find statistics on hospital stays by type, ED statistics by state, and summary tables on AHRQ quality indicators. The site allows users to benchmark one particular organization against national or state statistics, and also has national and state statistics on hospital stays by payer.
