When the two largest Grand Rapids, MI, hospitals merged in 1998 to form Spectrum Health, the case management team knew it had to reevaluate cross-departmental communication throughout the newly developed healthcare system.

In the past 10 years, Spectrum has grown to include nine hospital facilities, making it western Michigan’s largest integrated healthcare system, covering a distance of more than 100 miles.

“We went from being two community hospitals to being this large healthcare system almost overnight,” says Taffie Dollaway, RN, clinical supervisor in Spectrum’s care management department.
