In order to meet the rising demand for free clinics in Atlanta, the city has launched a program called TAP-IN.
The aim of TAP-IN, a non-profit program funded by The American Health Initiative, is to help the high-quality free clinics in the Atlanta area recruit retired primary care physicians, specialists, dentists, nurses, pharmacists, psychiatrists, and social workers, and connect them to the uninsured population. The Georgia Free Clinic Network estimates 30,000 people were turned away last year by free clinics because of capacity issues.
TAP-IN, which is also operational in Virginia, North Carolina, and Texas, is intended to be implemented nationwide. To learn more about the program, or to volunteer, visit http://www.tap-in.org/.
