A report released April 7 by the American Hospital Association found that the effect that hospitals have on the economy has reached $1.9 trillion dollars, according to the Nashville Business Journal.

The report was prepared by Avalere Health, a healthcare consulting company, and also found that hospitals rank second as a source of private sector jobs, employing more than 5 million people nationwide and directly or indirectly supporting one out of every 10 jobs in the U.S.
