The current president of the Case Management Society of America (CMSA), Peter Moran, RN, C, BSN, MS, CCM, is also a case manager at Boston's Massachusetts General Hospital where he works with frail elder and homeless patients.
Moran recently spoke with Case Management Monthly about his involvement in spearheading the following three important issues for CMSA in 2008:
- Identifying gaps in the system and advising on methods to safely and securely help patients transition across healthcare
- Revising and reissuing the standards of practice for case managers
- Advocating for current procedure terminology code changes for the 2008 Physician Fee Schedule
"I've been doing case management now for 15 years," Moran says, "and many of the people who started in case management with me are no longer case managers. They're burning out. I want people to engage case management, I encourage them to go beyond expectations and raise the standard, I want them to find the balance in their lives, and I want them to tell their stories."
