Survey shows consumers care about pricing data

Consumers care about healthcare prices and quality, and will shop around if they are provided with that information, according to a survey published by The Regence Group, a health insurance company based in Portland, OR.
The survey of 2,000 people in four states showed that seven out of 10 people would seek out information about prices and quality of nonemergency medical services.
If the patients shop for health services the way they do for products, Regence CEO Mark Ganz thinks market competition will put pressure on doctors, hospitals, and other providers of healthcare to lower their prices and improve quality, according to a story in the Portland Business Journal.
