According to The New England Journal of Medicine, insured children in the U.S only receive appropriate outpatient medical care 47% of the time. The study highlights the need for healthcare reforms focusing not just on the uninsured, but also on the quality of care provided to patients with insurance.
1,500 children participated in the nationwide study and nearly all of them had health insurance. However, health insurance did not guarantee them the recommended quality of care. The California HealthCare Foundation (CHCF) co-funded the study, along with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the CMS, in an effort to improve patient care quality and improve clinical outcomes.
