A Washington University School of Medicine physician has developed a system he believes will be the key to preventing wrong site surgeries, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Six hospitals across the country are currently using the CheckSite System designed by Dr. Richard Chole, MD, Ph.D, to prevent wrong site surgeries. The system uses a wristband with a microchip with corresponds with two sensors on the operating door. According to the Post-Dispatch, if the operating team fails to mark the proper spot and does not deactivate the microchip in the wristband with a sticker, an alarm sounds.
