APR clarified for physicians reporting concerns
Accreditation Connection, September 14, 2007
New rules announced by The Joint Commission protect physicians and medical staff members from retaliation or disciplinary action should they report concerns about safety or quality of care at their facility.
The Joint Commission has clarified an accreditation participation requirement (APR) that previously discussed hospital staff to include physicians and medical staff. According to The Joint Commission, it was the original intent of the APR to include physicians and medical staff members as part of "good faith participation" in accreditation policy.
Concerns surrounding quality of care or safety can be reported to The Joint Commission Office of Quality Monitoring at 800 944-6610, or by email at complaint@jointcommission.org.
