Stroke centers and improved outcomes

Accreditation Connection, September 3, 2007

Joint Commission-accredited stroke centers have better outcomes for stroke victims--if the signs of a stroke are quickly identified and the patient is taken to a designated primary stroke center, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Joint Commission-accredited stroke centers must have 24-hour acute stroke teams in place seven days a week for evaluation of patients within 15 minutes, as well as the ability to provide neurosurgical services within two hours of being deemed necessary, among other factors.
