Push for online hospital quality data means some Web sites better than others

"Transparency" is a recent healthcare buzzword, referring to many hospitals posting quality data on comparative Web sites. However, not all sites are created equal, reports the Richmond Times-Dispatch. The article points out that sites often just judge hospitals based on one measure and/or the measurement data only shows whether a hospital is above average, average, or below average in certain areas.

The information presented on these Web sites is also not in the easiest format for viewers to understand. This should change as public reporting becomes more mainstream, the article says.
