Physicians request clarification from CMS on referral documentation requirement

The American Medical Association and 51 other medical organizations have asked the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for clarification on a ruling regarding documentation when billing for a consultation, according to American Medical News.

Physicians have also asked CMS to drop the requirement for more documentation for a consultation code, something that requires more paperwork for both referring and consulting physicians.
