CMS releases 30-day mortality rates for heart patients released
Accreditation Connection, June 25, 2007
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released its 30-day Risk Adjusted Death (Mortality) Rates, a model put out by the Hospital Quality Initiative that predicts patient death rates within 30 days of hospital admission for heart attack or heart failure, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Web site, which displays the mortality rates.
The data is taken from Medicare claims and enrollment information from more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide. The mortality rates are only for patients with Original Medicare.
