Nurses say syringe labeling can help stop medication errors

The American Nurses Association (ANA)'s 2007 Study of Injectable Medication Errors found 68% of nurses surveyed nationwide believe medication errors can be reduced with more consistent syringe labeling, noting that labels often had illegible writing. An overwhelming 97% of nurses worry about medication errors, according to the study.

Sixty-five percent of nurses found that labels that covered measurement gradations on syringe barrels posed the greatest problem.
