Long Island hospital regains Joint Commission accreditation
Accreditation Connection, June 11, 2007
The Nassau University Medical Center of East Meadow, NY, had been conditionally accredited since May 2006 but was reaccredited by The Joint Commission (formerly the JCAHO) after a two day survey this past April, reports the New York Times.
Originally the facility received 15 Requirements for Improvement for issues such as unlocked medication carts, use of unapproved abbreviations, and using a poor method of measuring refrigerator temperatures (necessary to keep medications at a certain temperature).
The hospital undertook certain corrective measures to get back on track and aim for reaccreditation. This included the incorporation of a surprise survey within the hospital.
