Upcoming National Time Out Day serves as reminder to get it right
Accreditation Connection, June 11, 2007
The American College of Surgeons (ACS) and The Joint Commission are teaming up with the Association of perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) for another annual National Time Out Day, to be held on June 20.
Sponsors of the event hope it will remind and encourage surgical teams to "time out" to verify important facts before every surgery. Time outs result in clear communication, and that means better patient safety, says ACS Executive Director Thomas R. Russell, MD, FACS.
Time outs were established in 2003 by The Joint Commission to prevent wrong site, wrong procedure and wrong person surgery.
