Boston hospitals release survey information

Accreditation Connection, April 30, 2007

Five Boston teaching hospitals released their Joint Commission survey results to the public last week, according to The Boston Globe.

Massachusetts General, Brigham and Women's hospitals, Boston Medical Center, The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and Children's Hospital Boston each released data that is normally confidential in an attempt to be more open and show attempts at improving.

All five hospitals will or have received inspection, according to the Globe, but all had areas for improvement.

Med reconciliation was a problem at Mass. General, Brigham and Women's, and Boston Medical. Of the five hospitals, Mass. General received the most recommendations for improvement with 10, which was part of the reason Mass. General President Peter Slavin said he released the data from his hospital. He called the results "a wake-up call" and said he was "disappointed" with the hospital's performance on the survey.
