Ohio hospital sued over medication error

The family of an 82-year-old woman who died at Akron City Hospital from an overdose of potassium phosphate through an intravenous (IV) line is suing the hospital, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.

The county medical examiner's office ruled that Victoria Baker died from an accidental overdose, but Baker's sons want the order changed to homicide because of what they believe was gross negligence.

Baker was supposed to have received the drug through a feeding tube, but a nurse allegedly injected the drug with a syringe into the IV.
