Field still waits for '07 Goals FAQs
Accreditation Connection, January 29, 2007
The '07 NPSGs were announced in June 2006. The Joint Commission previously said the '07 FAQ document would come out before the end of 2006, since implementation of the 2007 NPSGs was required as of January 1. But during a Joint Commission audioconference last week, the accreditor's patient safety director, Rick Croteau, said the document would likely come out before the end of January. Last year it was released in February.
Some field experts believe the implemenation deadline for the NPSGs and the delayed release of the FAQ document put organizations surveyed during that gap in an unfair position. "Too bad the customers don't know anything about [the FAQs]," says one person close to The Joint Commission, who asked to remain anonymous.
A draft copy of the FAQ document was obtained by BOJ but it appeared to be in deep state of revision, although you can look forward to clarification on the suicide assessment goal and other sticking points of confusion. Croteau said during his audio program to expect the changes to be a "significant revision."
