Article: JCAHO, not outside groups, will choose next president
Accreditation Connection, July 10, 2006
The naming of a successor to JCAHO President Dennis O'Leary won't be as simple as it was when he was appointed to that role in 1986, asserts an article in Modern Healthcare.
The June 12 article quotes American Hospital Association (AHA) officials who say although the AHA, the American Medical Association, and a few key individuals played pivotal roles in identifying the candidate 20 years ago, this time the JCAHO's entire board will be involved in the decision.
"It's a very different environment today," AHA spokesman Richard Wade says. "The job of choosing a new leader of the Joint Commission belongs to the Joint Commission."
