New lab APR meets CMS requirement
Accreditation Connection, July 17, 2006
The JCAHO recently approved a new Accreditation Participation Requirement (APR) for the laboratory program.
Effective immediately, APR 20 requires laboratories to comply with a predetermined process for resolving unsuccessful proficiency testing, according to a JCAHO press release issued July 10.
The APR also meets a requirement for JCAHO's deeming authority with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for ongoing monitoring of proficiency testing performance, which is required by all laboratory accreditors.
For complete information about what's required in the new APR, consult the July edition of the accreditor's Perspectives publication, which is sent to all accredited organizations. And be sure to check out HCPro's Laboratory Compliance Insider newsletter for more in-depth coverage.
