JCAHO works with American Diabetes Association to offer certification
Accreditation Connection, July 24, 2006
The JCAHO announced July 20 that it is collaborating with the American Diabetes Association (ADA) to offer inpatient diabetes care certification.
Certification is optional and not required for JCAHO accreditation. The JCAHO offers many certification programs. Click here to learn about them.
The inpatient diabetes program is based on the ADA's clinical practice guidelines. According to the JCAHO, the program is a first in the nation.
Organizations seeking the certification will undergo an on-site review of their compliance with national standards and the management of diabetes patients through clinical guidelines. The review will include an assessment of performance measurement and improvement activities.
The JCAHO plans to convene an expert panel to develop a standard performance measure set for inpatient diabetes.
