JCAHO seeks help with hand-hygiene compliance
Accreditation Connection, September 11, 2006
The JCAHO is partnering with infection control leadership organizations to identify the best approaches for measuring compliance with hand-hygiene guidelines, the accreditor announced last week.
According to a JCAHO press release, the 18-month project will result in an educational monograph that recommends best practices for measuring hand hygiene compliance.
"Lack of consensus on how to measure hand hygiene compliance has made it difficult for epidemiologists, infection control practitioners, and quality improvement professionals to determine the effectiveness of hand hygiene expectations across various healthcare settings," according to the press release.
The participating organizations include the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America, the World Health Organization World Alliance for Patient Safety, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, and the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases.
