JCAHO standards manuals enter extensive revision for big changes in 2009
Accreditation Connection, October 9, 2006
The JCAHO announced in its October edition of Perspectives, which all accredited organizations receive, the "Standards Improvement Initiative."
The goal of the initiative is to improve the clarity and relevance of the standards, according to the JCAHO, by eliminating non-essential standards and ensuring that the remaining standards are relevant to their care settings.
The changes are slated to go into effect January 2009 for the ambulatory, critical-access hospital, home care, hospital, and office-based surgery programs.
In addition to Perspectives, see the October issue of Briefings on JCAHO for more on this topic.
